How to play GM Rally Windows
The game has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 10 and Windows 11 22H2, it works fine. You may experience some small troubles when you play the game on modern systems, check our Notes for details
To install the game, simply mount the ISO image or extract it with WinRAR or other file archiver, and run Setup.exe. English and German versions of the game are DRM-Free, simply install & play
Notes:
- If the installation doesn't start - try to launch Setup.exe in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (98, 2000 or XP)
- It is recommended to install all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and NET Framework for the correct work of the game. Also it is recommended to install K-Lite Codec Pack for the correct work of in-game videos
- The game works on DirectX 9, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
- If the game doesn't work - run it in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (Windows 98, 2000, XP, etc.) and as administrator. To do that right-click on exe-file or desktop shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility
- Be careful, Russian version of the game was protected by infamous StarForce DRM! StarForce DRM drivers can ruin your computer, especially if you use 32-bit variant of Windows. Make sure to use NoCD before the first launch, simply replace the files in game folder
- Optionally, you can install the Russian translation patch on English DRM-Free version. That translation patch includes the files from the official Russian version and works fine on English version
- By default the game supports only 4:3 screen resolutions, but it is possible to run the game in wide screen resolutions. Simply go to
GM Rally/Data
folder, open VideoSettings.scr and changeResolution
to the desired resolution (e.g.:Resolution(1920,1080)
), that way you can enable any screen resolution up to 4K. If you enable high screen resolution, it is recommend to use FOV Fix, since the game's engine, Chrome Engine 2, crops the view at resolutions with an aspect ratio wider than 4:3 (Vert-) - If you have problem with broken sound effects or disappearing sound - first try to change the sound settings. If it didn't work - set sound quality to 24 bit, 48000 Hz or 24 bit, 44100 Hz. Read this guide how to do that
