How to play Kung Fu Panda Windows

The game with NoDVD has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10, it works fine. You may experience some small troubles when you play the game on modern systems, check our Guide and Notes for details

Install & play guide:

  • Mount the ISO image with disc image utility, like WinCDEmu, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools Lite, etc. Or, if you have WinRAR installed, extract the files from ISO image
  • Install the game (if autorun doesn't work - simply launch the installation from Setup.exe inside the disc). It is recommended to install the game not in default path, but in some other, non-system folder, like C:/Games/Kung Fu Panda
  • After you installed the game - install NoDVD, simply copy Game.exe from the archive and put it into game directory, agree to replace original file
  • Open the directory with installed game and find Game.exe. Right click on Game.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Set "Run this app in compatibility mode with Windows 98/ME" and "Run as administrator"
  • Launch the game and play. If the game doesn't work in compatibility mode with Windows 98/ME - try to launch it in compatibility mode with other version of Windows (Windows 95, XP, Windows 7, etc.)

ISO image of US version has files for 6 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch and Swedish. For some reason, you cannot select the language during the installation process, it selects automatically based on your system language. But you can select the installation language by following these steps:

  1. Extract ISO image as an archive (you may need WinRAR, 7-zip or another similar utility), or copy all files from ISO to the folder on your hard drive
  2. Go to the folder with extracted files and find Setup.ini file. Open it in Notepad or another text editor, scroll to the end and find [Languages] list. In the line default=409, change 409 to the language you need: 40c for French, 407 for German, 40a for Spanish, 413 for Dutch, 41d for Swedish. Save the changes and run Setup.exe from the same folder, the installation will start on selected language. If you want to switch back to default English language, enter default=409 in Setup.ini

What to do if you get the error about broken save games and corrupted data:

There's a common bug when the game cannot create savegames in C:/Users/"Username/My Documents folder if "username" has non-English letters. If you get the error about broken savegames, do the next:

  1. Step 1 is the same for any version of Windows OS: create "My Documents" folder somewhere on your disc, it must have simple path, like C:/My Documents
  2. For Windows 7 users: Click on Start (Window) button -> in pop-up menu find "Documents", click on it with right mouse button -> select "Properties". Or right-click on "Documents" on your desktop and select "Properties". In "Properties" window click on "Add folder" and add newly created C:/My Documents folder, then select it as a default Documents folder. Open old My Documents folder (in C:/Users/"Username/My Documents), find Activision folder and move it to new My Documents folder
  3. For Windows 8, 10 & 11 users: Click on Start (Window) button -> "File Explorer" -> "Documents", click on it with right mouse button -> select "Properties". In the "Location" tab type C:/My Documents. Click Apply -> Click "Yes" when prompted to automatically move all files to the new location > Click OK. Here's step-by-step guide how to change defaut Documents location in Windows OS

Now the savegames will be stored in C:/My Documents folder instead of the default folder, and the game will be saving correctly. Don't forget to revert the changes when you finish the game, or the system will keep saving other files in that folder (like save games for other games)

Notes:

  • If the installation doesn't start - try to launch Setup.exe in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (98, 2000 or XP)
  • It is recommended to install all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and NET Framework for the correct work of the game. Also it is recommended to install K-Lite Codec Pack for the correct work of in-game videos
  • The game works on DirectX 9, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
  • NoDVD is required for the launch because the game is using SecuROM DRM protection, which doesn't work correctly on modern systems. NoDVD "cracks" DRM protection and allows to run the game without the disc. If you see error that there's not enough space on the hard drive when you copy NoDVD files - re-install the game in non-system folder, like D:/Games/Kung Fu Panda, Windows Protection may block copying of files to system folders (like C:/Program Files or C:/Windows)
  • If you have problem with broken sound effects or disappearing sound - first try to change the sound settings. If it didn't work - set sound quality to 24 bit, 48000 Hz or 24 bit, 44100 Hz. Read this guide how to do that
  • Intro videos are unskippable, if you don't want to watch them every time - remove atvi.bik, beenox.bik, dw.bik and luxo_logo.bik files from Kung Fu Panda/Movies folder
  • The game supports widescreen resolutions, but by default the maximum available screen resolution is 1280x720. You can run the game in bigger resolutions with Kung Fu Panda 60 FPS & Widescreen Fix by killer-m, also with that fix you can increase the in-game shadows and lighting quality, but note that the maximum quality requires a lot of video RAM. Check this guide for details about that fix, also check this thread for details about graphics settings
  • By default the game is capped at 30 FPS, you can run the game on higher FPS with Kung Fu Panda 60 FPS & Widescreen Fix. Jump height is tied to the framerate, and on high framerates jumps will be too low, so don't enable very high FPS
  • For users of Windows 7 and after: if the game doesn't work - try to do the next: right-click on desktop shortcut or exe-file -> Troubleshoot compatibility ->Try recommended settings -> Start the program. Here's the guide with pictures. Running the game through Troubleshoot compatibility should help you to run the game on Windows 7 and newer systems
  • If you have troubles with Russian version of the game - check this and this threads
  • Don't forget to check PCGamingWiki if you have troubles!

@Satan PhD Did you try to run the game with recommended settings? Right-click on desktop shortcut or exe-file - Troubleshoot compatibility -Try recommended settings - Start the program
Also, try to run with wrappers like dgVoodoo (adapts old DirectX 2-9 games to DirectX 11 & 12) or DXVK (adapts DirectX games to Vulkan API), maybe that will help.
If it didn't work - run the game on Virtual Machine with old Windows (XP or Win7), that way the game should work for 100%

@Admin, I just tried that and nothing. Thanks anyways, I appreciate the effort though!

@Satan PhD Try to disable DEP (Data Execution Prevention) for Game.exe: Go to Control Panel - System - Properties - Advanced System Settings. From the System Properties dialog, select Settings. Select the Data Execution Prevention tab. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. Click "Add and use the browse feature to browse to the program executable you want to exclude" - show the path to Game.exe inside game directory

Ive used full rip, oldgamesdownload full game, and ive tried the abandonware websites iso. The last two are all put together for you. Yet neither work. Ive even thrown the nodvd, alt nodvd, and no cd into every single version ive downloaded. Ive tried every compatibility mode, run as admin, allow threatening files on windows defender. Every single time it gives a cursor loading screen and then the game fails to launch. Ill just accept my defeat but thanks anyways, maritish!

I have downloaded the game numerous times across various websites. I encounter the same problem with all of them and its simply that the game will not boot. I have tried every single fix suggestion over and over and over to know avail. Does somebody know something that can allow me to experience my first childhood Xbox 360 era game? Thank you to whoever out there that can lend me a hand!

We updated this page a little bit, added some new information to the guide, including the instruction how to select the language during the installation.

If you have troubles with installation - you can try to use our Full-Rip, it is already pre-installed English version of the game

There doesn't seem to be a disc image in the folder I downloaded, how do I mount one?

I feel stupid, I found the noDVD. Please disregard my other comment.
However, the game gets stuck on startup everytime. I've tried different compitability settings, followed all the instructions, but it just gets stuck on a slightly dark green tinted screen. Would really like to play this game.

I can't find any NoDVD folder. Is this something you download or does it come with the iso? Sorry for stupid question.
