How to play Pure Windows
The game has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11, it works fine, the game supports widescreen and high resolutions up to 4K. You may experience some small troubles when you play the game on modern systems, check our Guide and Notes for details
Install & play guide:
- Mount the disc image. You will need the utility for mounting disc image files, like WinCDEmu, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools Lite
- Install the game (if autorun doesn't work - simply launch the installation from Setup.exe inside the disc)
- It is recommended to install the game not in default path, but in some other, non-system folder, like
C:/Games/Pure
, so you won't have troubles with NoDVD or fixes - Also make sure that you enabled DirectPlay if you didn't make it before, read this or this guide how to do it (if you're using Windows 7 or older - just install DirectX from the disc)
- After you installed the game - install NoDVD, simply copy files from the archive and put it into game directory, agree to replace original files
- Now install d3d9hook - simply copy d3d9.dll file from the archive and put it into game directory. That file fixes crashes and black screen bug on modern systems
- Open the directory with the game and find Pure.exe. Right click on Pure.exe - Properties - Compatibility - Set "Run this app in compatibility mode with Windows XP SP3" and "Run as administrator"
- Launch the game and play. If the game doesn't work in compatibility mode with Windows XP - try to launch it in compatibility mode with other version of Windows (Win98, Windows ME, Win2000, etc.)
Notes:
- If the installation doesn't start - try to launch Setup.exe in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (98, 2000 or XP). Please note that on old systems may take more time, if installer window "stuck" and doesn't react - wait a minute or two, while it check the files
- NoDVD is required for the launch because the game is using SecuROM DRM protection, which doesn't work correctly on modern systems. That NoDVD "breaks" DRM protection and allows the game to work on modern systems
- It is recommended to install all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, and NET Framework for the correct work of the game
- Also it is recommended to install RAD Video Tools and K-Lite Codec Pack for the correct work of in-game videos
- The game works on DirectX 9, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
- If you have black screen at startup - use d3d9hook, simply copy d3d9.dll from the archive and put it in the folder with installed game, make sure that DirectPlay is enabled. It should fix the problem, this method has been tested on Windows 8 and Windows 10. There must be no such trouble on Windows 7 or older OS, since they have proper DirectX 9 support
- Also, looks like that method should help if you have very long or endless loading screens
- Please note that the game with d3d9hook may not work correctly if you enabled forced anti-aliasing in game through the control panel of your video card
- DRM protection of the game is broken and sometimes it asks for the disc even if you use NoDVD, showing error "There is no disc in the drive". If you have that trouble - use this fix or try to mount mini-image to bypass disc check
- Don't forget to check PCGamingWiki if you have troubles, also you can check Steam forums

if you like this style of game i also recommend a game named Mx vs Atv Reflex (2009). its the best game from the series by far and if you get into modding it, you will have hundreds of tracks to choose from. i highly recommend it

Is there any way to make this application full screen once downloaded?

Split second is indeed on steam, so it won't happen, However Fuel is planned at some point. Also, i agree, this game has a great sense of speed.

This is one of the few PS3 era racing games which IMO is very worth playing.
The level design is very different than any other I have experienced before or since. It almost feels like you are constantly going down a slope of a mountain. It's very well made, with good sense of speed and quite a lot of content.
If we manage to get Split Second (not going to happen as I believe Steam still has it?) and FUEL, we would probably finish with a good part remaining of awesome racing games of the PS3+ era.
I haven't tried these versions here, but if all goes well, you are in for a ride!
(sorry not sorry)
