Description of Storybook Weaver
Here is the video game “Storybook Weaver”! Released in 1992 on DOS, it's still available and playable with some tinkering. It's an educational game, set in a graphics / art, reading / writing and typing themes and it was released on Windows 3.x and Mac as well.

Finding the same issues as Konker. Can't actually seem to add backgrounds, and clicking objects freezes the game entirely. Running it in dosbox 0.74. Anybody know how to fix this? Would love to play this again. Pretty sure I made a book in this specific version of the game way back in elementary school.

I've managed to run the installation successfully (DOSBox 0.74 with D-Fend 1.4.4) by mounting the folder "storybook" as a virtual floppy drive (edit profile, add a drive as drive "A" with type "floppy disk"). The music is working functionally now, but backgrounds will not add, and clicking on "objects" freezes the game completely.
I remember having this as a DOS game as a child, though of course my memory is not perfect. But IF this is the Mac version, why is it labelled here as DOS, and why does it run NEARLY functionally in DOSBox? Can anyone, an admin perhaps, reliably tell me which this is?
If this is the DOS version, as labelled, can anyone tell me how to avoid this particular crash screen?

I need this game... I used to play it all the time as a kid! I remember spamming the dollar sign ($$$$) and making the text-to-speech say "dollarsdollarsdollarsdollars" over and over. Lol.

I have a story my grand-daughter wrote using Storybook Weaver at the age of 10. I laminated it and used yarn to tie it together as a book. Now at the age of 23, she has just had her first novel accepted for publication.
I would highly reccommend this program for every child. It encourages their imagination and makes writing fun.

The game I like best is Story Book Weaver because I've played it before in school and I liked it a lot.it's the best game on this website and if you don't like it we all like different things but I still think it's the best game on this website so deal with it if you don't like this game!

After downloading, I am unable to run the install program on Windows 7 as it throws incompatibility error. Can anyone help this please?

I can't believe I remember that game. I have fond memories of secretly going on classmates accounts and messing with their stories:)

Does this version work for Mac then? Or is there one that does?

Sorry batbot,I already have the original(not deluxe) Dos version, and didn't know this was the Mac version.
However, I will point out that people on this site are constantly complaining about DOS games not working in Windows 7, and DOSBOX is still the best fix for that.
Note to admin, please upload the DOS version of this to stop all this confusion.
batbot 2012-07-18 0 point DOS version
*sigh* as someone pointed out: This is the original, not the deluxe, and the original was for Mac not PC, so I feel that using a PC emulator is probably what's making it glitch. Totally non-technical assessment.
Everything works fine until I try to use/view a scene or object. I can make a million crude title pages, but no crude clipart illustrations except for borders.I like the zebras; scintillating game conversation, I know.
I guess I'll have to get some scratched up copy off of ebay~

Jimminy Cricket people, don't you pay attention? USE DOSBOX!!! The newest version will run in Vista and Windows 7 without any problems. If you're not used to command-line prompts, use a front-end program with Dosbox. The best one is Def-end.
CloudRider 2012-06-17 0 point DOS version
I can't get this to run at all for Windows 7... Whenever I do the Troubleshoot Compatibility thing, it always states that this is an incompatible program. :(
Is there anything at all I can do?
SAD :( 2012-01-19 0 point DOS version
kso i download is i open it and wat do i do after that a whole bunch of shit with names pops up!! WHAT TO DO?!
Lauren 2011-12-21 0 point DOS version
Bitch, same problem here. It's working fine but no scenes, no objects, etc. Totally defeats the purpose of having the game, because THAT is what I remember the most about it. Le sigh. Anyone solved this problem?

I used this software many times when it first came out. It's one of the best children's creativity programs you can buy.

I can't get it to run without freezing, and the scenes don't show up. What are the setting used to make it work properly with the D-Fend Reloaded program?

Added some screens, to play the game you have to run SBW.EXE in D-Fend / Dosbox.
