Description of Wargame Construction Set

A design-your-own simulation covering warfare from a tactical level throughout history. Marred by a system more attuned to World War II tactics than to a generic battle system, it was quite popular in its day.

Basically the user-modifiable source code of Roger Damon's previous works, the game's potential to design-your-own scenarios was limited by the failings of the system's mechanics. It was most applicable to the World War II era; a novice may well find its flexibility interesting, although the graphics are dated. [excerpt from M. Evan Brooks' Homepage]

I also had (have) this game on the C-64. The thought of making my own games intrigued me. However, even way back then I thought this "game" did not live up to my expectations. I thought it lame. I ended up making my own games on the C-64, without this editor.

The C64 version was well done. The PC port sucked donkey balls because it was very s-l-o-w, even when played on a 486. The game apparently wasn't CPU clock-based, but Real-Time, which only made the slowness that much worse. Not sure if DOSbox or D-Fend will allow this to be sped up any.

This was a fun game when I played it on my C-64. I made an urban gang war game with it. I'm not sure it holds up all that well these days, though.
