How to play X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Uncaged Edition Windows
The game with NoDVD has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10, works with no problem. The game supports widescreen and ultra-high resolutions up to 4K but you need to edit ini-files, check our Notes
Install & play guide (for ISO version of original DVD):
- Mount the disc image. You will need the utility for mounting disc image files, like WinCDEmu, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools Lite
- Install the game
- Also it is recommended to install DirectX 9 from the disc (if you're using Windows 10 - enable DirectPlay, read this or this guide how to do it)
- After you installed the game install NoDVD (simply copy Wolverine.exe from the archive and put it in
/Binaries
folder, agree to replace original file) - Open the directory with the game and find Wolverine.exe. Right click on Wolverine.exe - Properties - Compatibility - Set "Run this app in compatibility mode with Windows XP or Vista" and "Run as administrator"
- Launch the game and play. If the game doesn't work - try to launch the game, then open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del by default) and check for processes Wolverine.exe and rundll32.exe. Close Wolverine.exe but don't touch rundll32.exe (it's a Windows app for running old apps from 32-bit operational systems, most old games running through rundll32.exe). Now try to launch the game again, it must work. Don't forget to close rundll32.exe process in Task Manager after finishing playing
Install & play guide (for repacks):
- Simply mount the .ISO file with the utility for mounting disc image files, like WinCDEmu, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 102% or Daemon Tools Lite
- As alternative - extract the files from .ISO and launch Setup.exe
- Install the game (repacks include NoDVD already)
- Open the directory with the game and find Wolverine.exe.
Notes:
- Some users have trouble with installing the game when installer doesn't see the disc, especially on Windows 10. The possible workaround for it - create folder "WOLF_DVD" on your hard drive, copy all files from the disc to that folder and then try to install the game from "WOLF_DVD" folder. That method is not 100% guaranteed but it may work
- NoDVD is required for the launch because the game is using SecuROM DRM protection, which doesn't work correctly on modern systems. That NoDVD "breaks" DRM protection and allows the game to work on modern systems
- If you are having problems with the game not launching or loading endlessly - try to install PhysX drivers from the disc or PhysX Legacy drivers. Also, if the game doesn't start after intro videos - try to disable all in-game videos (intros and pre-rendered cutscenes), maybe it would help. You can find instruction how to do it here.
- By default the maximum screen resolution of the game is 1920x1080 but it easily supports ultra-high resolutions up to 4K. You can easily set desired screen resolution by editing WEngine.ini file in
.../Documents/Wolverine/WGame/Config/WEngine.ini
. Check WSGF page of the game to see step-by-step instruction - Also, the game has a lot of graphics settings but you cannot select them in game menu. But you can easily change graphics settings and enable antialiasing, anisotropy and high-res textures by editing same WEngine.ini file, check PCGamingWiki page for instructions
- If you don't know how to edit ini-files - you can download already edited WEngine.ini from this page or from NexusMods, simply replace original file in
.../Documents/Wolverine/WGame/Config/WEngine.ini
. Please note that that config file has all graphics settings to the max, so if the game works too slow with new config file - delete WEngine.ini, then launch the game again (the game will automatically create new WEngine.ini with all settings by default) - You can download some mods for the game from ModDB or NexusMods, including graphical mods and new skins for Wolverine
- Don't forget to check PCGamingWiki page, it is very useful

Working on Windows 11
Been having a blast on this, so many memories. Originally I only played the 360 version, then the PS3 version later on.
Why this never got a remaster or Series S/X upgrade with BC is beyond me. The graphics at times do shine at higher resolution when fixes are applied.
Issue on the Sentinel level with the ice freezer section, slow character movement on the transport belt. an get around it with a guard and throwing him into the beams or getting lucky.
Other than that it has and still is a blast.

It won't install Direct x 9. Any solutions? I'm using the repack Corepack.

So I installed the original iso and mounted it and then installed the game, but I can't replace wolverine.exe with the noDVD one. it says the disc needs 50mbs more space so I don't know what to do.

I tried both repacks, installed several vcredist packages, physX legacy driver, DX9 and cannot get it to run. There's no error output, the exe just closes itself instantly after starting. Shortcut is set to admin rights and compatibility mode, tried XP and Vista.
Running Windows 10 Pro 22H2 on an Ryzen 5600G with latest drivers. Suggestions?

I had to install PhysX using this method: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Troubleshooting_guide/Startup_and_launching_problems#Install_Nvidia_PhysX

@MATT Just install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, it's like a minimum requirement for any old game. I'd recommend to install all packages for all years, including 2005, 2008, 2010 editions, etc.; you can find download links here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

@BYEXSPENCER Okay, checked it once again today, everything worked fine on my Windows 10 PC with AMD video card, I just used NoDVD and run the game in compatibility mode with Windows XP SP2 and as administrator. Make sure you have DirectPlay enabled https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Troubleshooting_guide/Startup_and_launching_problems#DirectPlay_games_do_not_work_or_prompt_for_DirectPlay_feature.2FDLL
I searched in the Internet - people recommend to install PhysX drivers from the disc or PhysX Legacy Driver https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/physx/physx-9-13-0604-legacy-driver/. I have it installed, maybe that's why I had no problem with launch, I'll add it to Notes.
Also, some people recommend try to edit config file to skip in-game videos (intros and pre-rendered cutscenes). You can find instructions how to edit config file here https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/X-Men_Origins:_Wolverine#Skip_intro_videos

Update: Game just takes an eternity to start after the splash screen but the main menu doesn't exist & when I am able to start, it infinitely loads after the intro cutscenes and the game never starts.

I've tried every version uploaded here, but none of them work. They won't start even though I select Windows XP/Vista compatibility or have rundll32 running. I can't find any solutions here or online.

Glad this is available again as it is quite good. Back when Raven soft was free of the COD chains.
