To activate cheat mode, start kid.exe passing "cheat" on the command line (no quotes) i.e kid.exe cheat
You should see Cheat activated! briefly as the console text whizzes by.
Then, in the game press the C key to enter the cheat edit mode and you can then navigate the HUD panel with the cursor keys to change Lives, Level etc. Press SPACE/FIRE to accept changes and continue.
