This game works fine on DosBox 0.74-3 but it requires a small configuration step.
If your game doesn't work it is likely you are trying to run the game with incompatible video settings in DosBox.
Try the next configuration in your DosBox config file:
machine=svga_s3
When you run the game, you can select any video option from 2) to 7), both included. For Hercules graphics, you must change DosBox conf to
machine=hercules
And for some reason, the version here in myabandonware has two copies of the game inside the ZIP file. The game should be around 500KBs to 1Mb depending on some extra files such as READMEs and some extra character conversion tools and other stuff, so it was strange to me that this was 2MBs instead.

Can't seem to get it to work. Using DOSBox 0.74-3. No matter what graphics options I choose in the game, seems to stop at the screen after graphics selection.

Had a lot of fun playing the game back in the days of shareware! It's different, pretty hard and pretty good if you ask me.

paid $50 for this game. Great value for what was out there. I still remember how exited the guy was that made the sale.

The dosbox.conf file you're using for the "Play in your browser" option is wrong; for Moraffware games the machine type should be "svga_et4000", then 256-colour SVGA (with the Trident chipset -- option 1) will work.

Use a cheatprogram like Game Wizard, something that lets you modify the RAM while the game is playing. Then the game isn't so hard and it improves it's gameplay!

I am down to level 24 and I still haven't found a ring of regeneration. I keep finding nothing. But I just love this game and I am 73 years old.

This takes me back to when I bought my first PC. :)
I was addicted to it then and am hooked on it again now.
I've gone as far as i can go in Normal mode. Am a about to do it all again in I Can handle Anything mode.
My teenage sons just don't get it. LOL

I played this game when I was like 5-10. It drove me nuts, I didn't know what to do or how to play, but to this day it's still my number one favorite. SO GLAD that My friend (who played this or watched me play it) showed me this link. ... Now, just to figure out how to play it.

Cool game to try to beat by starting player as experienced (I can handle anything), human-wizard. Once you start drinking potions which tweak attributes you are well on the way to beating this game in its shareware version. It is not hard to learn and its involving strategy is compelling to compete against, but not impossible.
