Has anyone ever gotten the original game to run on Windows XP? No matter what I do, the game gives a "Access Violation" error. I am using a VM, but it sounds like the game wouldn't run on newer systems anyway.

@Yosh64 How did you manage to run Pure Pinball (either standard or 2.0 redux; you didn't mention) under Windows 11? What else did you install? Dxwnd? Something else?
My PC with Windows 10 home x64 struggles with this. I applied Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode and downloaded the d3d8.dll file somewhere from github, but still I had to wait around 4 minutes (some players report Pure Pinball may take up to 12 minutes to load!) before I saw the title screen. At last, but why does it have blinking black bars across the screen?
Anyway, after the game loaded, I configured the options, set the resolution to 1280x960, the game didn't crash (some players warn the game will crash when the resolution is either lower or higher than 1024x768), the tables worked as they should have. Why does Pure Pinball need 4 minutes (or more) to load while I don't need to wait even a minute in case of more demanding games (like Need For Speed Shift)? Is this due to optimization issue?
I had a shitty PC with Windows Vista home premium x86, but I didn't experience the issues I did on Windows 10 home x64. Tested on a cd release of Pure Pinball 2.0 redux.

The cd version runs perfectly in windows 11 and the game is good

The CD version is working only under Windows Vista. And nothing else! The game seems to be broken because it doesn't run under Windows 10 despite taking all compatibility modes. Even Windows 98\ME mode doesn't help! I've looking for the answer everywhere, you can do your best and find a solution, but I wish you good luck!

GOG offers "redux" version which is broken, table lights are not working, no patch has been ever provided by the publisher (what was the point of releasing this version anyway?). Gog's version is broken even if ran on win 2000 or win XP on a legacy pc build from the year the game came out, but the oryginal CD version works just fine. Its a shame it can't be obtained here anymore.
