This plays nicely on Basilisk II running either System 7 or MacOS 8. It will work on the Mac Plus emulator as well, then you miss out on some really rather nice color images (some are still B&W though) and a much less cramped experience.
And Quarterstaff is an experience. Despite some rather annoying bugs, it is among the most fun role-playing/text adventure hybrids ever made, created in roughly the same time frame as the inimitable Beyond Zork. It was released only for the Macintosh, first as a rather rougher-around-the-edges game just called Quarterstaff by a little-known publisher, and then as a more polished attempt by Infocom/Activision, with Apple IIgs and IBM versions 'to follow'. Unfortunately, this was right around the time that Activision simply gave up on text adventures (and all attempts at imagination), which is why so few have heard of it.
If you like text adventures, or tabletop role-playing games, give it a shot. It's well worth it!
