Description of The Chessmaster 3000
Here is the video game “The Chessmaster 3000”! Released in 1991 on DOS, it's still available and playable with some tinkering. It's a strategy game, set in a chess theme and it was released on Windows 3.x as well.

@BILL P. I'm not running XP, I'm running Windows 3.11 in DOSBox, which was from my original install disk when I bought a new computer way back in the early 90's. Windows works that way, but the sound drivers in Windows obviously won't run my modern laptop's sound card, and the video only shows 16 colors as well. That's why when I try to run the CM3000 install disk it keeps popping up with an error about no sound card and won't let the install finish. I don't remember if I've downloaded this version and tried it or not, but I'll give it a shot.

To JOJO MAMA, another commenter on this site, my suggestion for your problem is, first, download the software. If its an archive, extract all the files into one folder first. After that, you can now see the main executable file. it is usually longer (more bytes) than other executables in the same folder. Now, right click on this exe file. Then, select "Give it a desktop shortcut". Then proceed to your desktop. Right click on that icon you just created. Then, select "Properties". Then do this PROPERTIESCOMPATIBILITY. Then, check the "Run in compatibility mode" box. Then, a menu selection appears. Select the appropriate OS. Then, that's it. I hope this helps. I'm talking of the use of Windows XP. If you're using XP, this is exactly what you're gonna do.

One of my childhood memories, I've played the windows version a long time ago.
And btw, how could they get the chinese translation wrong? Xiangqi is chinese chess, NOT western chess.
Why is it that a lot of asians rarely get translations right?

I have this version for Windows 3.x but I can't get it to play under Windows 3.11 in DOSBox because naturally I don't have any drivers for Windows 3.x for my modern laptop. So every time I try to run it it will pop up with an error message. Thank you very much for providing the DOS version. Can't wait to try it.

@Excel: You need to run it through DOSBox. Notice how it clearly states this is a DOS game in the description?

Compared it with Chessmaster 2000. The look and interface changed, I needed some time to get used to it. I like it's very detailed tutorial plus "Natural language advice" feature - when the program shows you the best next move with detailed explanation of what it will accomplish. Great tool to learn to think several moves ahead.
