It seems to be a successor of "Major Stryker" although Epic Megames was a competetive shareware-publisher of Apogee.
The last version Tyrian 2000 is one of the best shoot'em up games for DOS.

I played SO much Tyrian in my friend's basement on his PC. There were enough easter eggs and things to notice that it was incredibly replayable. You could find ship configs that were massively powerful, nearly unbeatable, but that didn't lessen the fun. :) What a great time!

Tyrian, LOVE IT! Back in the day this was THE shooter to have on DOS. It was at this point that you could say "Yes, PC games can compete with console games in terms of graphics and fluidity". Really great game, great music, many memories with this one. Unfortunately it didn't age so well as when I try to play it now I don't enjoy it so much compared to other stuff like Dodonpachi.

Still, Tyrian will always have a special place in my heart :)

My favorite vertical shooter game much harder then raptor but has more play through value as there are lots of secrets levels upgrades and modes. raptor is #2 for me

Right after Raptor, my 2nd favorite vertical shooter!

Like Raptor addictive and a great solid gameplay! But much more challenging sometimes, you faster get destroyed and some enemies are really hard to beat (especially accompanied by more enemies coming across the line of fire)...

And like in Raptor you have the ability to play the game further with all your earned upgrades and credits, even if you already've beated it!

Just try it out! ;)
