Description of Crime City

This is a neat little adventure game that was released only in Europe with little fanfare.

As the prodigal son whose father was arrested for crime he didn't commit, it's up to you to track down the real killer and bring him or her to justice. It's essentially a detective game with creative strategy elements thrown in (e.g. you must manage your time and money very carefully-- each action takes time, and travel costs money). Lots of text in this game provide for hours of fun sleuthing despite amateurish graphics and sound.

This is, no joke, one of my favorite games of all time. About 93 or 94 maybe I 6 or 7. We were from a VERY small town in Missouri and pretty poor. My demanded that my dad get us a computer, so, he had the local rv repair man build one with this, another of favs, shadow president thrown on it, to this day I credit this game and that computer with being the beginning of my own career as a computer / software engineer. NEIL B thank you SOO much for this gem, in specialize in updating old code and hard problems myself mostly, you've kind of been an unsung inspiration for me for about 30 years. And thanks ocead called for the Save fix!

Well, I not only remember the game, I wrote it for the Pc, converting the Amiga gfx and using the source for reference. Impressions got ISC Ltd for the conversion and I worked for them. It was a fun job, thou I struggled to get suitable art work for the CGA and EGA versions (the yellow hospital scenes still haunt me! :-)

I'm really pleased that people are still enjoying this game.

Some more....hints are available @ "old dos games.com" but they are not as helpful as walkthroughs. They can give only a rough idea .
* Max your crime and surveillance skills and lock picking skills by the time you go for breaking door/lockpicking .
*While doing surveillance,do for 2hrs each time ,if you cant suceed in 4 times in a row ,it means you need to improve your survelliance skills
*Dave is at pub only from 10am and 4pm ,visit him everyday or two to get clues !

All in all a good game. But unfortunately ,no proper guides ate available. Some of the frustratingly things are picking up like locks, trading in stock market.you need to save frequently. only one slot is available which is unfortunate .Bdw,you can get a walkthrough(video) for amiga on youtube .I think it pretty much works for DOS too.But dont expect the game to be as smooth as it appears in the video .While doing stock trading save when u have bought a stock and its price jumps. If price doesnot jump or falls down...better to reload.Use the same technique to make the prices fall steadily when you want to buy a costly stock!
Cheats:1 use the 'save' option to manipulate stock prices in your favor
2.Before u go to jeff, save the game .When you are coming back from der ,a mugger comes ...just "beg for your life " ...some times he becomes kind enough to give you 100 bucks. If he attacks you ,y can reload instead.
3.Dont learn all the tricks at once. You will need surveillance skill(2 is enough) for 2nd survellience.you can also borrow money from jeff ,though it had interest ...it can be useful capital to invest in stocks
4.U can relax ur stress at church or by having a booze at the pub(2bucks just) use dat when u are going for lockpicking ..it may help
5.Dont lockpick/break door during daytime.Better to do from time 00:30

I played this game many years ago and liked it. I have DOSBOX and have tried to run it but it is not compatible with 64 bit. I do not know if there is a way to play the game.

SAVE GAME ERROR MESSAGE?

There is so much baloney out there about complicated Dosbox configuration crap. Just do the following:

1. Open the folder containing all the game files.
2. Right-click on crime.sav
3. Left-click on properties
4. At the bottom where it says attributes, remove the check from "read-only"

Ridiculous....

Looks like your typical point and click, except you have to make some trades to get money and continue the investigation.

Really wish it had an actual description. Downloading it anyway, but I really don't know what it is.
