J.R.R. Tolkien's Riders of Rohan
DOS - 1991
Description of J.R.R. Tolkien's Riders of Rohan
This fun tactical wargame set in the Middle Earth features cool units (including Frodo and Aragorn), varied missions, and good graphics and music. Definitely a "light" game in that there aren't many field options, and the combat model is somewhat simplistic.
Still, this game is one of the pioneers of the genre that would later see the likes of Fantasy General and the Warhammer series. The developer PSS also developed Sorcerer Lord, another underrated fantasy wargame.

Challenging strategy game. A good knowledge of The Two Towers is helpful since making decisions that stick to the original story points generally helps the player succeed. It's difficult to know the right moves at times because the map is fairly sandboxed, but you also need to be able to react to certain events. If your armies aren't present when an invasion is headed toward a city or fortress then you just have to take it as experience and use it for the next attempt.
