Description of Liftoff to Lizard Island: Internet Coach

Build a flying machine and travel the internet with Izzy the Lizard. Visit all seven continents as you learn to browse, search, e-mail and much more. There is a new adventure at every stop. Charming graphics, fun games and zany humor make Liftoff an irresistible learning tool.

Kids can play the Doggie Dash game in Antarctica, figure out the rockin' beat of the South American Monkey Jam, have a sword fight in a European castle, make it through quicksand in Africa, get their fortune told in Asia, and raid the toy store in North America as they search for the airplane parts.

Liftoff to Lizard Island is a cleverly conceived game for 5-8 year old children that is designed to introduce 'junior websters' to some of the basic features of the Internet. It is a follow up to Mission to Planet X, a program designed for ages 9 - adult. Izzy is a cute lizard who lives, appropriately enough, on Lizard Island, a remote island in the middle of a vast ocean. She is lost, and needs a plane to get back home. The parts of the plane are scattered all over the world, and so the players have to travel to various parts of the world to find the missing parts, then put them all together to make a working plane. In doing so, they learn some of the basic skills involved in using the Internet.

Across the top of the screen there is a dummy Netscape browser menu bar, and at various times users will need to click on this in order to activate a particular command. To obtain the plane part the player first uses the map to get to one of the world's continents, then explores the location (four screens) looking for objects or clues. If you click on the animals they will make noises or give you a clue. At some point you will need to use some sort of Internet process, and occasionally you will have other problems to solve, such as assembling various lengths of vine to create four 10 ft vines for the parachute.

The game was considered lost media for many years, sought by many enthusiasts without success. It was finally re-discovered by reddit user tmack3 after years of deep searching and dedication to preserving this unique piece of educational software history.
