Neoclyps was one of many games I discovered as part of the booming piracy scene in the late 80's. It had some great graphics for it's age, on par with Metroid. The gameplay was an odd side-scrolling shooter with strange physics: one could pass through solid matter with the help of a very temporary power-up. This was not discussed in the game itself, making a pirated version very difficult to figure out. It took me a couple YEARS before I understood how to actually PLAY the game and not just flounder hopelessly while checking out the images.

It's very much based on the classic Defender with some noteworthy tweaks.
