Neverwinter Nights
DOS - 1991
Description of Neverwinter Nights
This precursor of BioWare's Neverwinter Nights was an online rpg that was running on AOL for most of the nineties. It uses the same engine as the popular goldbox AD&D games by SSI, and all the usual features are there. If you have played any of the other goldbox games, this one holds no surprises.
While this offline version has all the areas and features of the online game, the unfortunate fact that one cannot save the character makes playing it somewhat pointless. There is some entertainment to be found from just exploring the game area and slaying some monsters, but in the end I can only recommend it for those who want to complete their collection of goldbox AD&D games.

Lol. So this will be a GoG/Steam purchase now? I wonder if they will put Both Buck Rogers on there as well. Hell, knock out some of the other D&D games that aren't easily playable from the 3d0, Genesis, etc. I was disappointed some of my other favorites weren't on GoG.

PLEASE FIX ME! It's been a month since I reported that links for this game to be played/downloaded were broken and not appearing which means this game has been broken for at least two months and has yet to be fixed. This is one of the few RPG games that's free to play, please fix!

For the past week or two, this game has not had the option of playing or downloading it as it previously did. When you pull it up, all it shows is the hearts that show the rating and no other buttons. Even though this game is just a silly time-waster, I stilled enjoyed playing it when I could. Please fix!

You can use "Dosbox SVN r4019 + savestates Build (Alpha)" to save game. Left ALT+F5 - save to current slot. Left ALT+F9 - load state from current slot.

Saving work-around: Try to run it on a VM and never power it off (i.e. only suspend the VM.) So when you return to the VM, it'll be at the last place you left off.
This was one of the most popular game on AOL, and probably most profitable. But they were too greedy and overcharged (by the hour, no less.) Eventually people found better games that cost much less. Not to mention the rise of the genre of FPS that eventually became the new rage of online gaming; then modern MMOs like UO and EQ, which provided much better cost-per-hour (or per month) value.

Actually Neverwinter Nights actually started on a service called Promenade... Which later became AOL. Shortly after becoming AOL, AOL begin charging for people to play the game online. Those of us playing were eating up the available bandwidth the servers had at the time. After charging access fees to NWN it soon fell off, and was replaced by another rpg that was terrible. And which AOL charged 2.95 / hour to play.

Bioware neverwinter nights that means the newer one is at this point abandonware as well, the online player base is failing and the last patch for the game "1.69" removes the CD\DVD protection as well its no longer supported by anyone "game spy / Bioware" and any CDkey will work offline or on, we need the player base so any and all are welcome.
Game is 14 years old at this point with no support and if that doesn't make it abandonware i don't know what douse.
As well nwn is one of the feu action rpg games online that allows full on no rules pvp, most RPG games don't allow it but some nwn server do that are listed under action.

Can someone do a hack that would permit you to save your character?
