Description of Obsidian
One of the very few "Myst clones" games I actually like, Obsidian is much better than its overhyped predecessor for its novel premise that combines hard sci-fi with surrealistic fantasy, and innovative puzzles that are not out of place.
As a scientist who created Ceres, an intelligent machine that utilizes nanotechnology to repair the earth's polluted environment, you must venture into the mysterious Obsidian, a structure built by Ceres, to rescue our partner Max. Great puzzles, graphics, and overall atmosphere. Too bad it's all over a bit too soon.

Wanted to let you all know that Hwertz's option 2 works wonderfully!! Many thanks to him/her. Considering Obsidians age, still amazed how great and creative a game this is.
To clarify, when copying the contents of Disks 2-5, make sure that they are copied into the "Obsidian" folder that was created when you copied the contents of Disk 1. Just to be safe, as some old software is finicky, I chose to create the primary directory right under the C: drive. I named it "Obsidian-ScummVR"

1) To run in wine, I did the following:
I ran the setup.exe off disk 1. It ran fine. I did try winetricks to install a much newer Quicktime, but it does want it's version. I let it install quicktime and that succeeded too. I ran "wine control.exe" and went to the quicktime settings, in one of the tabs there's an option to set (slow) GDI. (winetricks said for quicktime 7 that it shows a black window unless GDI is selected, so I found the same option in Quicktime 2 that Obsidian installs and selected GDI.) I ran obsidian and it said it needed 16-bit color. I ran "Xephyr -ac -display 640x480x16 :1" and then (after installing twm) "DISPLAY=:1.0 twm &", then "DISPLAY=:1.0 wine Obsidian.exe". This actually worked, BUT it insists on popping CD 1 in even when I have it mounted. Boo!
Option 2 -- Apparently this is new as of August 2022, to be added to ScummVM 2.7.0 (current release is 2.6.1 as I write this.) Get a daily build (or if you're reading this years from now, get 2.7.0 or newer...) of ScummVM and it now supports the "mTropolis" system this uses, you copy all the filed from all 5 CDs into 1 directory and "add game" in ScummVM. Done. I just tried this and it works!!!

My mistake, I was able to run it using an emulator, but I can't install it because it's not compatible with 64-bit Windows...

Help! Downloaded Obsidian for windows and can't install it as it's missing "_setup.dll".
