As an Amiga and Commodore enthusiast, i couldn't recommend this game more for the niche market, substantially speaking at many levels. It went on for a good while with little to no comparison, for sure, exactly, absolutely. I was tripping balls on acid when i realized it was a video game website all along. Fun times man, highly recommend

As an owner of the C64 Sid Meier's Pirates! Pirates! Gold and the 2008 Atari / Firaxis release of Sid Meier's Pirates! I must say this is the best non-3D version; however, as Sid Meier continues to release this game on multiple platforms this is why it's not abandomware. It's well worth it if you can find it for a reasonable price (I think I paid $20 for the Firaxis version, but walmart lists it for $95). Arguably one of the best games ever made. This version is a little better because they didn't remove some of the town siege mechanics as they did w/ Firaxis' version. If you can find the original manual, you can know where the Spanish gold fleet is at any given time (was the C64 copyright protection). With enough ships, you can take them.

I bought this title with a fond sense of nostalgia, but buyers beware.
For whatever reason, (DOSBox issues?) the controls are almost COMPLETELY broken in combat, and you'll invariably find your opponent outmaneuvering you and sinking you with ease.

This was DEFINITELY not the case in the original release, and a good sailor with a nimble ship could often take very large prizes.

It's so frustrating being unable to enjoy this game.

I agree with Confused above, why are they advertising here games you have to buy? You can go to thousands of sites and find games for purchase. I think GOG and these guys are one in the same. Just a rip-off.

i don't know how to make it work!

Why is the controls so fucking clunky? In sea movement or ship to ship battle I need to push the button so many times to it to turn to the right or left.

Downloaded and unzipped to my dos games folder. When I run the several of the .exe files using DOSBox I get the error message:

"File Not Found Error!
SVGA#: 0 (nosvga) w/0Kb"

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I don't see anything like a "setup" .exe anywhere
