Description of Star Trek: The Kobayashi Alternative
This sequel to Promethean Prophecy is text-based Star Trek adventure that's quite difficult to play and even more difficult to finish. It's quite fun, though, and well-implemented. Using the same interface from its predecessor, you can order the various members of the crew (Spock, McCoy, etc.) to do their duties. Be very patient and experiment a lot-- most of the solutions to puzzles in this game depend on knowing what each member of the Enterprise crew is capable of.
Overall, an average sequel to Promethean Prophecy that has worse writing and more confusing puzzles. A must-have only for Trekkies and die-hard adventurers.

The non-DOS games are useless. I don't even know why the company even bothered to produce them if they weren't going to be the same game! So don't even bother with them.
You'll need slow DOSBox down before you can run it. I'm running it a 386_slow with simple core and at 750 cycles.
Then when it's running the first thing you have to do is slow down the simulation (the game simulation) by pressing F1 then F10 and then F1 again.

I was playing this on XT IBM in 1986,87.
There is absolutely no way it could have reached my uncharted part of the quadrant at that time. Somebody is playing "let's all do a perihelion around the sun" again. We had no modulator-demodulator for our primitive single-line communications array, and the other neighbouring species were still mining their noses for gold-pressed mucous - and, I might add, not finding anything precious.
Also, you are correct in stating that this game was hard - I did not know what a tricorder was until I played this game - yet, you are incorrect in saying that the writing was poor. It was perfect. This game nearly _invented_ the use of pop-up dialogue boxes, a feature unseen in other adventures at that time.
It is well that you did not say much more, for a Super Space-Frigate was very nearly deployed to your region in order to settle this matter once and for all, for the sake of my honour, but, being the supreme Overlord of this quadrant has its advantages, and the commander of that Super Space-Frigate was accidentally eliminated out of a need to keep the peace in this part of the galaxy, because he farted in someone else's space-suit.
Needless to say, he can be replaced, and if I were you I'd just stick to the facts.
