Description of Timeline
Over the years, certain games have become rather large jokes in the annals of computer gaming history (stand and say hello Battlecruiser 3000 AD ..the worst game in history). Eidos and Timeline Entertainment's Timeline is about to join that honoured legion: The Great Dane Society of Real Dogs. A select breed, the worst games in existence. Buy this game for a drinks coaster. Trust me, it is a better use for it.
You are a history student called back in time by your college professor to save him from 16th century France. The opening scene has you watching a video of the professor shortly before his time jump back into France. It is up to you to save history and the world. While Timeline has an interesting premise and Michael Crichton as lead designer and author and all seems like it can't go wrong. Unfortunately, everything you can think of, does.
The game is horribly slow, even on a system that exceeds the recommended requirements, the graphics and audio are choppy even on supported 3d cards and soundboards, and the interface is so blatantly disgusting and hard to figure out it's not even worth mentioning. That's just the technical end of things. The gameplay makes BC3K look like Da Vinci. The story, while interesting, is rather cliché and boring and the game never quite gets going. While this title is billed as an action/adventure, there isn't much action or adventure in the rather empty gameworld. The characters are shallow and the voice acting is horrendous.
The Timeline Worlds website and company went under soon after they released their one and only game. No patches were ever made and Eidos has done nothing to try and help debug the game. Timeline tanked on the shelves and was bashed by the critics and deservedly so. Play this game at your discretion..but don’t say you weren't warned.
[Underdogs’ addendum: Crichton is no stranger to gaming – the computerized version of his novel Amazon he designed for Telarium was well above average. Too bad he has “lost touch” with good game design more than a decade later.]

I decided to return to this game after 3 years as I quite enjoyed it, however I've since upgraded to windows 11 from 10 and now receive an error during install saying that "there are not enough memory resources", pretty annoying as I have 64gb of ram. I've tried limiting virtual ram and everything else that I can think of but unfortunately I haven't been able to make any progress on it.
It seems I'm the only one experiencing this issue both on here (other users in comments are using win11), and on google (I cant find anyone experiencing a memory resources error through installshield). Should anyone else experience the same error and figure it out, please leave a comment for myself and others to follow.
Thank you.

Yup, same issue here - black screen on start up, and forcing New Game via Escape button just makes the game freeze really, can't do anything, movies do not play, none of the compatibility options work. Windows 11. Help?

It took me forever to get this to run. First, it will not run on Windows 10, since this is a DirectX 7 game. Well, it runs, but at 0.5 frames/s. I got it to run on dgVoodo(DX7 emulator .dll), you drop it in the games folder and it gobbles it up. it will now run, but you will get a mipmapping issue where characters and some objects turn white when you get close. To fix this, you need to set options in dgVoodooCpl. On the General tab, set Output API to Direct3D 12, in DirectX set Fast video memory access.

Can't mount using standard windows 10 right-click thing. I had to install WINCDEmu.

I had trouble installing this on windows 10, putting setup.exe in windows 98 mode worked for me, my setup even crashed at 100%, but everything installed correctly. Don't forget to set the exe as well

The ISO file is fine. Need to run in compatibility mode for installation and then playing the game.
For some reason it worked under Windows 10 only in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Go figure. It's short, but fun. Don't miss author's tour.
