X-COM: Alliance
Windows - 2002
Description of X-COM: Alliance
X-COM: Alliance was supposed to be a tactical squad-managed shooter set in the X-COM universe. The game was announced in 1998 and promised to be released a year later, in 1999. But in the end, the game was postponed several times, at some point it was transferred to another development team, and in 2002 it was officially canceled. In 2011, the beta version of the game was leaked to the Internet. The beta contains 5 completed levels and playable beta versions of other levels. Development materials were also leaked - the source code of the game, 3d models, textures, documentation, and more

How to play X-COM: Alliance Windows
This demo version of X-COM: Alliance is based on the beta version of Unreal Engine b.219. Run the game through .bat files.
The file alliance.bat
starts the intro, after that you will see the main game menu with the option to choice the characters & their equipment, watch the briefing and encyclopedia. Some levels may not start after reading the briefing (it's better to run levels immediately, without reading the briefings). You can also launch the levels without a menu interface.
The remaining .bat files (lev ##.bat) directly start the game levels or their intermediate variants (1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 12). The sound in the gameplay is disabled, as the early version of GalaxyAudioSystem can conflict with modern equipment. To enable the sound, you must open the folder with installed demo, find ... /SYSTEM/unreal.ini
file and set the UseSound = true
option in the [Engine.GameEngine]
section. If desired, you can run any levels from the /MAPS
folder through the UnrealEd.exe editor.
It is recommended to install the game in the folder C:/Alliance

@Booster metadata was mixed up indeed. We do not have a special layout for canceled games, and we set the year to 2002, when the development stopped.

1) X-Com Alliance was not released in 2002, because it was not released at all. It was supposed to come out in 1998, but Hasbro cancelled it and it was leaked in 2011.
2) It's not a strategy game, it's a first-person shooter based on the Unreal Engine.
