Xatax
DOS - 1994
Description of Xatax
Xatax is a side-scrolling shooter that doesn't add any revolutionary concept to the genre, but does what it does well: furious action, tons of power ups, endless waves of enemy ships, and well-designed levels.
A fun and harder-than-average shooter that bodes well for the fledling company.

These screenshots and level design look very similar to Stargunner (1996), albeit much more primitive. Did 3D Realms rip off Pixel Painters?

@Oldschooler - You must have an old download or one from another site, I just grabbed the file available here and can access episodes 2 and 3 from the getgo on my laptop.

How do you unlock the next two episodes if you're playing on a laptop? I've finished ep1 but can't seem to proceed with ep2

I just finished this game. Xatax consists of three episodes. The first episode is too easy. The second episode is a decent challenge. The third episode is a Nintendo hard bullet hell that requires frequent save game reloading. Unfortunately, the ending sucks - just two lines of text, after all that hard work clearing episode three. I was disappointed that the story given in the intro was not continued.

Wow! Good old times' game. I played xatax lot of times, enjoying music and graphics. Later, when I see Descent 3D, I say "this guy owes a lot to xatax".
