So, I wanted to play the German Version but setup.exe did nothing on Windows 11. But I got it to work (even without Disc-(ISO)-Change) - maybe it works with english version too:
1. Install latest Quicktime-Version (I didn't have any crashes with that)
2. Create a folder for the game somewhere on the HDD, where your User-Account has Write-Permissions (the game creates savegames into that folder)
3. Mount Disc 1
4. Copy all Contents from the folders "MININST" and "MEDINST" from Disc 1 into the Game-Folder on the HDD (copy not the folders itself, just copy the contents from the folders)
5. Copy also the folders XN and XV and the file NAV1.NMV from the Disc into the folder on the HDD
Note: In many Copy-Operations, you get the prompt, that some files already exist. It doesn't matter, if you choose Overwrite or Keep
6. Mount Disc 2
7. Copy all files and folders into the game folder on the HDD
8. Repeat Steps 6&7 with Discs 3-7
9. Start XFILES.EXE in the game folder and enjoy

Nevermind. It works fine on my Windows 11. An amazing X-Files experience on my PC for the rest of my life. Yay!

I got DVD version working with Windows 10 Pro 64bit
1. mount ISO
2. copy all DVD content to some folder in your SSD/HDD(i got "Insufficient memory available to run Setup" error if i tried to install from DVD)
3. dont start autorun*!!! go to where you copied files and open "English" folder and start "SETUP.EXE"
4. install game(dont remember was Task Manager Analyze Wait Chain trick needed or not, if setup hangs use it), later you get 16bit error but ignore it.
5. play and enjoy :) you need to keep DVD mounted to play game.
I already have Quick Time installed, if you dont have it, install.
*with autorun i got 16 bit errors and setup didnt start, i may be wrong but looks like autorun tries to install GM( looks like its 16bit win program and cant run 64bit os).

If there is a way you can get this to work on Windows 11 though, any of you, much appreciated. The "Analyze Wait Chain" and ending the process of the file holding the setup.exe back within the "Analyze Wait Chain" is not working for Windows 11, it simply refuses and says it's not compatible for 64bit systems.
Otherwise, 'The X-files Game' works great on Windows 10 for me, which obviously, runs on a 64bit system. Maybe there is another work around for this?

I managed to get it working today. Thank-you all for your different and various comments, it helped me experiment based on my PC specific configurations. I have a PlayStation copy of this game and have been wanting to play the PC version of this game for over 20-years, since I was a adolescent.
As stated you need to have Quicktime versions listed, plus, yes, I also had to run "Task Manager" and go into "details' option and look for setupexe after trying to run it and right clicked that to enter "Analyze Wait Chain" and "end process" of the file holding back the "setupexe".
NOTE FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE A DATA COMPRESSION, ENCRYPTION AND ARCHIVING TOOL LIKE "WINRAR" INSTALLED PRIOR- Due to "File Association" The DVD ISO, will appear to be a in the form of a RAR or ZIP. But it is also the ISO Disc Image Itself and unlike other computers without such "File Association" its not as simple as 'mounting' after 'right click' or 'Double Clicking". There a little more to it with a PC configured this way.
After extracting the game files via it's installer function (RAR or Zip), still keep that file, as its also the ISO image to be used every time you launch the game. Before launching the game, make sure you 'Right Click' that very same DVD ISO, a list of options should appear, then choose the "Open With" option, after which simply choose for it to opened with window explorer, this will make the computer think that the 'DVD' has been mounted as an external DVD disc. The game should work fine with that.

in case you have trouble running the setup on Windows 10 (you run it, cursor turns for a few seconds, then nothing happens), try running Task Manager, going to Details tab, find SETUP.EXE, right-click on it and Analyze Wait Chain. In my case there were two programs waiting, there's an option to do "End Process" on them, - first for the first one, then again Analyze Wait Chain, and do End Process on the second one - then the setup starts. an error towards the end about 64-bit version of Windows can be ignored. Then the game works as expected, at least in the beginning.

To anybody having difficulty getting this running in modern Windows.... you have to find an updated version of flash player that will both install AND work with the game.
After doing that, the game worked flawlessly. Hope this helps someone.

Yeah. The dvd tries to install gamemaster. I suspect it is some kind of malware.
It does have an uninstall program though.

The auto run on the dvd installs some weird program. Not certain what it is. Then it installs the game.
I will have to look into it.

At the time I loved everything X-Files in the 90s and early 00s so I had to get this game. I found it ok, loved the graphics at the time and got engrossed in the X-Files universe. I do think the series has dated badly now, but it did have it's moment, long before the identities of Mulder and Scully were swapped around and the characters messed around with too much. Great at the time.

Finally got this game to work on Windows 10. Firstly you need to install QuickTime, and version 6 worked for me with very little fuss. Now download each iso file and put them all in one folder. Then double click or mount ISO disc 1, then find the setup.exe and right click it and change its compatibility setting to Windows XP. Now launch setup and the install shield will start, this could take a while so be patient, when it starts select full installation, which means you won't need to swap discs in game, an error message told me incorrectly that I did not have enough hard drive space but just select ignore to get around this. The game will now install and at various points it will ask you change disc, and to do this press the windows key to return to the desktop, then unmount/eject the current disc and then mount the disc that is required, return to the installation and confirm, although sometimes you may need to repeat this for it to be accepted. Once installed open the game folder and find the X Files game launcher, right click it and change compatibility to Windows 98, and now you can launch the game. Barring the odd minor glitch the game should work but it's best to go to options and select 'best performance' and then gradually alter the individual graphics settings to see what you can get away with.

The game was released on PS, PC, and Mac in 1998.
I tried to run the PC version of the game but could not.
A better option would be to download a PS version of the game.
You can downloaded the PS rom of this Xfiles game from Cdromance or other rom site. Also, you can use the ePSXe emulator to play the original PlayStation game.
Lastly, I suggest that you also download the PS2 rom of the game X Files: Resist or Serve from Cdromance as well. This game was released in 2004.
The PS version is set during Season 3 of the TV show and the PS2 version during Season 7 of the show.

To get this to work on windows 10, download the DVD ISO. Also, download QuickTime 7.6. Install QuickTime. Double click on the ISO, go to the English subdirectory, and run the setup.exe file with compatibility mode for Windows XP. This should install with a few 16 bit errors. Now double click on the DVD ISO to open it, and then run the X-Files program All should work well. Because you have the ISO open, the program assumes this is the disc. And you won't be prompted to flip the disc.

Just one click to download at full speed of 166 KB/s. Thanks for nothing, guys.

Got the DVD version just fine, however none of the autorun/setup.exe want to work in win10 even with Quicktime installed and compatibility mode enabled... any ideas?

This version works great on Windows 10. Needed to install QuickTime, but everything else works right. I have this game on ps1, but there are glitches when playing it on the ps2 or ps3. This version works great so far, and is really fun if you are a fan of the show or FMV games.
