Description of Zaxxon
The first isometric shooter in my memory brought the arcade's furious action, cool "powerups," and simple fun to the PC. The shadow that the plane casts on the ground is cool, too.
I remember playing this for days on end-- it was difficult to visualize the "3D" of the game because of the limited 4-color palette-- my plane always hit the brick walls because I couldn't line the plant up precisely with the opening.

Hi there!! It may sound a bit odd, but are there any intructions on which keys to use when playing ZAXXON for DOS?? My version only gives a few metres before it crashes into the first wall!!!
Thanks Simon.

When I start up the game on dos 74-3 The game glitches out, it runs but I can't see anything usefull, like a vga port is broken.

While I did not like the game much, it was a great technical. achievement at the time. I remember my dad and a friend of him talking about how the 3D effect was made.

One of those demonstrating well the vast superiority of the Commodore 64 over almost any other computer of the time. Seriously, you could not even spend $20,000 on an IBM PC that could be C64 on graphics when this was made. Even EGA graphics that became available that year couldn't meet C64 because it took so long for developers to really learn how to use it. And by the time they did, VGA was available, and yeah, Commodore 64 was now obsolete.

I'm sure I got this game as part of a game magazine Disk inclusion..
It was a pretty cool game back then, as others have said;and I totally agree with the"Home of the UnderDogs" site author about lining up with the gaps in the walls -- that truly was a pain, and the bane of many an attempt to get through the game!
Sadly, one I never completed.
(Lacking patience in my youth, no doubt.)

A great game... if you turn down the cycles to around 400ish (CTRL+F11 to lower, F12 to go higher) It is very fast-paced and loud game, very fun and addictive. For new people, the controls are
Up - 2 (on Number Pad)
Down - 8 (on Number Pad)
Shoot - SpaceBar
START - 1 (on Number Pad)
Enjoy!
