Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
DOS - 1992
Also available on: Amiga - Amstrad CPC - Atari ST - Commodore 64 - ZX Spectrum
Description of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
After starting on a good start with the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, Konami fumbled the license with this inferior sequel, subtitiled The Arcade Game.
The graphics somehow becomes so grainy and dull that you'll have a hard time telling each Turtle apart. Add quirky controls, uninspired plot, repetitive enemies, and boring levels to a long list of weaknesses, and you end up with a poor use of the blockbuster license. Fortunately, Konami would redeem themselves with a much better sequel, Manhattan Missions a year later.

Game starts and closes after 1 second. How to fix?

This DOS port of the first arcade game looks at first glance to be solid, with graphic details that are more faithful to the arcade than the NES version. Too bad animation is so choppy that it negatively affects the gameplay controls, which are mediocre in hit detection to begin with. Oh, and the sound is beyond terrible, with the same annoying short snippet of music which sounds nothing like the arcade or the tv theme playing in a constant loop. Skip this and get the more react Cowabunga Collection which includes the actual arcade game and the NES version.

This game pushed the C64 to a new extreme, a bit of wizardry allowed for extra sprites on screen. This is the game Golden Axe should have been, but that in itself was a quality conversion. It would have been interesting to see what Golden Axe could have been if it was released after this. Still to this day, there are new TMNT games based on this very game getting released. I would have to say, the best TMNT game to date.

It's nice to see that this file doesn't work. Way to go.

I think that the review corresponds more to the 1989 DOS game. This one is that with the bigger sprites instead

Looks like some files are missing for the sound driver. You may want to try another archive via squakenet.
